>> Get the gathering bus! :)
We have arranged for buses to drive from Amsterdam, leaving at 2pm from the city centre on Thursday 14th July. The bus will drive directly to the site and costs only 11 euros -- a hell of a lot cheaper than the train! Seats are limited, so please email us to book a seat. You need to be at the pick-up point (see maps below) by 13.30.
The location where the buses to the camp site are leaving is on the west
site of the back of central station Amsterdam. See the maps below for
the right directions.
The bus stop where the buses are waiting for everyone is called
'Droogbak' and is located at the right site of the road (coming from the
station, so not next to the water). Because this bus stop is used by
regular public transport buses and is located at a busy road, our buses
can only stay there for maximum 15 min. For this reason it is very
important that everyone is there in time! Please make sure to be there
at 13.30 at the latest.

>> How to get there by car:
If you come by car, please check a map (paper, google, gps) for the
exact directions towards the site - it can be a bit hard to find! There is no parking on-site, so please drive a few minutes down the street to the following car park which is situated along a street named Boerestreek:

>> How to get there by public transport from Amsterdam:
If you plan to come by public transport and don't want a seat on our pre-booked bus, the best option is to take a
train to the city Assen. If you first arrive in Amsterdam, take a train
to Amersfoort first and change there to the train going to Groningen.
Assen will be the second or third last stop before Groningen. This takes
approximately 2 hours. If you leave from a different place in Holland,
and you would like to know beforehand which train you need to take to
Assen, check your route at ov9292.nl.
From Assen, you need to take bus 19 to Leeuwarden or bus 15 to Heerenveen.
Get off the bus at the bus stop called Cafe Hulst. This takes
approximately 40 minutes. The map below points out the route from the
bus stop to the camp site, and we will also put up signs on the way
there. We are also reachable by phone. The phone numer will be published
as soon as possible.

Transport
The IARG 2011 will take place at a campsite in the Dutch countryside. The location is reachable by public transport (train and bus) from different cities. The closest airports are Amsterdam Schiphol and Bremen (Germany). Please consider using transport that least harms nature during your travel to the Netherlands, for example using trains, coaches or sharing transport if possible.
Cheap travel tickets from many european countries, including the UK, can be booked
via Eurolines coaches. Booking a few months in advance means the cost can be extremely low, and avoids more environmentally damaging means of travel such as flying. See the Eurolines website here.
-- Important!! We have organised three buses going from Amsterdam to the campsite on
Thursday 14th of July, leaving Amsterdam Central at 2pm.
On Monday morning after the gathering, we have organised one bus
going back to Amsterdam which must also be booked in advance. We only have a certain number of places
available, so please subscribe yourself to one of the buses by sending
us an email. To cover the costs of the buses we ask 11 euro for
traveling along each travel, which is much cheaper than getting the
train / bus to the site.
If you come by car, be aware of the absence of private parking places at the camp site. Your vehicles can be parked at the public car park in the nearest village which is a 5 minute walk away.
More detailed descriptions of the directions will be released in a few months.
Campsite
Besides several workshop spaces the camp site offers space for tents, although this space will be fairly limited so please bring small tents or arrange to share tents wtih others. If you have special sleeping requests because of medical or other reasons, please contact us in advance so we can make sure we provide everyone with a comfy sleeping place. There are several toilets and showers present at the site.
Please do not bring your phone or camera on the site - we can provide a safe space to store these items.
The campsite is entirely drug-free (no alcohol or drugs) and we ask all participants to respect the terrain and people around them by not drinking or taking drugs on the site. There will be a space elsewhere (not too far!) for people to spend in the evenings to consume alcohol. This is not a space purely for drinking but is a mutual space for everyone, so we ask those who wish to drink to do it respectfully and sensibly.
The camp site has lovely surroundings, where it is possible to swim, climb trees and have walks in the forest. It is possible to stay longer at the camp site after the IARG has ended. This can be arranged with the site itself and is not covered by the IARG admission fee.
Food
There will be three delicious vegan meals a day, served by the mobile cooking collective Le Sabot. There will also be a vegan bar serving coffee, tea, cakes and snacks all day long. The bar's profit will be donated to an animal sanctuary. If you have special food requests because of medical or other reasons, please contact us in advance so we can take this into account with the food preparation.
The cooking collective is run by volunteers and always cooks 100% vegan,
organic and preferably with local food. They serve on donation, which
means that they do have costs but it's up to everyone to decide what
they can afford to pay for the food. The costs of the cooking collective
are approximately 2 euro for 1x breakfast, 2 euro for 1x lunch and 3
euro for 1x dinner. This also includes donation-based coffee and tea all day long.
The cooking collective have asked people not to bring their own plates, cutlery (forks/knives), cups etc. All of this will be provided for you.
Children
This is a child friendly event but you must email beforehand so we can create a children's program suitable for the amount of children attending. So far, we are expecting one child (more are welcome of course). If you do plan to come with kids then please email us :)
Dogs
Dogs are allowed on the campsite, but please consider that the site will be extremely busy, with children and other dogs who are permanent residents on the site. If you can make alternative care arrangements for your dog, please do so to help the gathering run more smoothly for everyone. For safety reasons, if your dog is aggressive or unpredictable towards others, we ask that you do not brinig him or her to the camp.
Racism, sexism and other nasty things
Racists are not allowed on the campsite. The IARG is a peaceful event based on respect for others. Also, sexist or discriminatory attitudes are not welcome, and we ask all participants to be mindful of the wide variety of people attending the IARG.
Costs
Each year the IARG is organised voluntarily by dedicated and hardworking activists. To cover all costs, we ask every person to pay 12 euro for the whole
weekend. This includes the cost of using the campsite, but food is a separate cost. If you can help fundraise to help towards the costs, that'd be super - see the fundraising page here.
After the IARG: Week of action / Clear-up
After the IARG, Monday 18th July will be a clear-up day to ensure the site is left as clean and lovely as we found it. The rest of the week we will be arranging demonstrations for current campaigns in the Netherlands. Anyone willing to take part in either are more than welcome to stay!
What to bring
Here are some suggestions of useful items to bring:
- Tent (please bring small tents due to restricted sleeping space)
- Sleeping bag + sleeping mat
- Cash money for the whole weekend - ATM machines are quite far away, so if you want to avoid being harrassed by lots of annoying cops, please bring enough money to last you the whole time!
- Torch
- Mosquito repellant + tick remover / tweezers (lots of hungry bugs live in the forest!!)
- ID such as passport or ID card (required in the Netherlands)
- Swimming clothes for the lake :)
- And finally... a good sense of humour and tolerance for a diverse variety of people :)
