THE CAMPSITE The place we will camp during these days is in Venaus, a small town in Valsusa (Susa Valley), north west of Torino, near the alps.

The place hosting us during these days has played an important part in the struggle to save this valley from the devastating impact of high-speed train (TAV) works, that would have destroyed the mountains you are gonna see around you. This land has been used since a few years as a permanent space for the anti-Tav movement, and slowly a house has been built with a person living there permanently. We are happy and grateful to be hosted in such a fighting community, that managed to resist for years the aggressive forces of earth destruction.

The campsite will offer accommodation for all attending activists, from Thursday morning to Monday morning. The accomodation on site will be camping. Bring your own tent and mattresses. Very important: The venue is unfortunately not suitable for bringing dogs. There can be no exception to this.

LIFTS If you need lifts or accomodations after the gathering, there will be a message board to leave your messages and requests.

FOOD All food on site will obviously be vegan. A kitchen crew will serve 3 meals to all attending activists, while a vegan cafeteria will offer more delicacies all day long. If you have any special needs concerning food, please let us know in advance so we can organize suitable solutions. If you can bring your own plate, fork and spoon, please do it. No disposable stuff will be used anyway.

LEGAL INFORMATIONS For all the activists coming to the gathering it is important to know that in Italy if the police asks you to show your ID you are forced to do it. You cannot say no or conceal your identity, otherwise they have the right to bring you in a police station for identification.

For people coming from countries outside the European Community this would mean even more problems, since if found without ID they could be brought in so-called “identification and expulsion centers” (CIE), built as a way to get rid of immigrants.

Police could attempt to identify as many activists as possible at the demo or near the campsite. Please always move with this in mind and try to be attentive and stay out of troubles for your sake and for the event’s sake.

WEATHER Prepare for hot weather. Italy in July is really hot and many of you may not be used to these temperatures and burning sun.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION All attendees will be charged with a not-for-profits cover charge of 25 euros to cover expenses for food, rent, equipment etc. People have to pay the cover charge in cash when they arrive at the site. The Animal Rights Gathering is a collective effort - for and by activists. The AR 2010-crew depends on practical help and initiatives from participating activists.
